UNIQUE Review of the Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet is one of the most popular fad diets ever with a huge following of people who use it based on the promise of fast weight loss.   Here we will explore whether the claims of the Atkins Diet really live up to the expectations of fast weight loss.

First of all, it is important to explain what the term “low carb” really means.   The term “low carb” is short for “low carbohydrates” which means the Atkins Diet calls for people to SEVERELY restrict carbohydrates in order to lose weight fast.

What are carbohydrates?

Carbohydrates are a form of calories inside most every food that is produced in our country, food items such as breads, grains, pasta, flour, fruit, bagels, and rice are just SOME of the many foods that are high in carbohydrates.   Carbohydrates are the main form of calories that give us our “energy” to live each day.  If you ever feel “weak” and sapped of energy, then most likely you have not eaten enough carbohydrates that day.

Food items such as meats and fish are some of the FEW food items that have no carbohydrates in them at all, since these food items are composed of both protein and fat.

The Atkins Diet does allow the eating of carbohydrates but it does call for a SERIOUS restriction of carbohydrates, especially any food item that has white flour or sugar in it.   The Atkins Diet claims that eating “fat” is not the true reason for our obesity and nutrition problems, but rather carbohydrates (particularly white flour and sugar) are the chief reason for our obesity and health problems.

This diet hints that both white flour and sugar are responsible for most of our health problems/obesity problems, as foods made with these two ingredients comprise the lions share of food being consumed by modern day society.

Our weight loss and diet experts believe most of the claims of the Atkins Diet, it is true that carbohydrates are consumed in excess in our society and make up probably 80% of the calories in the average person’s diet and that is far too high.

The Atkins Diet is a little too technical in its claims we believe, but the general claims that “fat” is not quite as bad as most health experts believe is quite true and using a “low carbohydrate” diet in order to lose weight is a very powerful weight loss tool indeed.

Overall, the Atkins Diet is something that can work for most people but be prepared to feel a little bit “weak” when using this diet because when you go from an eating program of high carbs to low carbs your body is going to be shocked and you will have your energy sapped as a result.
